Word Groups
Sort sixteen words into four groups of four. Select four words that belong together, then choose Submit.
How to play Word Groups
The board has sixteen words that belong to four hidden groups of four. The words in a group share something: a meaning, a familiar phrase, a word that can come before or after each one, or another link.
A small example · 8 words
Select four related words, then Submit.
- Select four words that you think belong together.
- Choose Submit to check them. A correct group leaves the board and shows its category name.
- If your guess is incorrect, change your selection and try again. Clear deselects your current words.
- Find all four groups to complete the puzzle.
What does “3/4 correct” mean?
Three of your selected words belong to the same group. Rethink the fourth word, and consider whether a tempting word might fit a different category.
A strategy for tricky groups
Read the whole board before submitting. A word can seem to fit more than one group, but in the solution each word belongs to exactly one. Try saying a possible category aloud and checking that it fits all four words equally well.
Try a shared word or phrase
BOW, COAT, DROP, and FOREST can all follow RAIN: rainbow, raincoat, raindrop, and rainforest. The link may be how words are used together, rather than what they describe.
Consider another meaning
BASS can be a fish or a musical instrument. Alongside DRUM, FLUTE, and HARP, its musical meaning makes a group. If a word seems out of place, try reading it another way.
Can I try again after a wrong guess?
Yes. You can keep trying; an incorrect guess does not end the game.
